A Reflection on Discipleship – Bringing the Mission Home

A powerful beginning has taken place within the Diocese of Camden as parishes begin forming intentional disciples in response to Bishop Williams’ call to deepen faith and renew evangelization.

On April 7 & 14th, a small group of parishioners from St. Thomas Parish attended the first two sessions of the School of Discipleship at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. One participant reflected on the experience as “a blessing to be part of something so meaningful,” describing how small group conversations created a space where people could openly share their faith and grow in their relationship with Jesus.

The evenings included prayer, Eucharistic Benediction, and a teaching by Jeff Cavins, all woven together with music that fostered a spirit of reverence and openness to the Holy Spirit. Participants witnessed firsthand how authentic conversation and prayer can move hearts and deepen discipleship. The second session deepened this understanding through the image of a rabbi and his disciples—reminding us that faith is not only taught, but lived and imitated.

We are especially grateful to the members of our St. Thomas community who said “yes” to attending this first session and representing our parish in this important diocesan initiative. Please continue to pray for this group.

This is only the beginning.

As we look ahead, our parish is being called not only to grow in faith, but to live it—to become intentional disciples who bring the Gospel into our homes, our relationships, and our town. The mission field is here.

More opportunities to learn, participate, and take part in this movement will be shared in the coming months.
